Alice Springs Invitational December 2007 - Report

Great carnival held on the weekend.  Seven visiting clubs from all over the Territory and the “Isa Heat” swimming club from Mt. Isa also attended.

Total of 129 athletes competed. Alice Springs swimmers won lots of medals and swam many personal bests.

Alice Springs Swimming Club won the “Champion Club” award with the most number of points although we were hotly contested by the “Top End Storm” swimming club from Darwin who took out eleven of the age aggregate awards.

Our own “Zac Dalby”, swimming in possibly his last Alice Springs Carnival, took out the carnival “Sprint Champion”, “Distance Champion” and “Champion Male” swimmer of the meet.

Past swimmer Troy Taylor, who has been doing some coaching for the club was a surprise entrant in the meet and showed that despite a lack of hard training, he hasn’t lost the winning form that saw him medal at the Australian Age Championships back in 2004.

Age aggregate awards won by Alice Springs swimmers went to:

Jake Nieuwenhoven – 11yr male

Liam Blakely – 14yr male

Taylor Chalker – 14yr female

Zac Dalby – 15yr male

Lisa Fuller – 15yr female

Troy Taylor – 17yr & over male

Paul Carter, the Technical Officials' Director from Swimming NT also attended the meet and carried out officials training over the weekend. Thanks to all the parent volunteers (too many to name them all) who volunteered their time over the weekend. It is impossible to run a carnival like this without your support and it is much appreciated.

Congratulations to all swimmers who participated, not only those who won medals or trophies. A lot of you swam many pb's and to those of you who didn't, don't be discouraged. Some of you haven't had the best preparation this season, and the last few weeks have been particularly unsettling due to Kane's resignation.

Hopefully things will pick up again now and we can start to prepare properly for SA and Vic Championships in January and our own NT Championships in March.

Fiona
