Once again our club enjoyed a successful trip to Katherine on the weekend for their annual Birthday Swimming  Carnival. Congratulations to all twenty swimmers who traveled to Katherine to compete, especially ten of our young swimmers, for whom this was their first trip away with the team.  It’s a long trip on the bus and very hot, uncomfortable weather in Katherine at this time of the year, very  different to the conditions we’ve had down here in Alice.
20 swimmers swam in 86 individual events and came up with 59 personal best swims. This was a much better percentage than last year.  Every swimmer had at least 1 PB and quite a number had many more. Jayce Brown, Brad Van Luenen and Teagan Hancock had exceptional results, swimming pb’s in every one of their events and winning at least two medals each. Megan Bilato, Jasper Edwards and Darcy Kerr also did very well, swimming almost all pb’s and each picking up medals. Well done also to Alana Fuller who took more than 27 seconds off her 200m butterfly time! Considering our late start to the season and the very cold water temperatures the swimmers have had to endure, I think they have done very well.  Overall our club came 4th out of 7 teams, which again is a better placing than last year.  12 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze medals went to individuals.

Our team captains for the meet, Alana and Ben, did a great job leading the warm-ups and March Past and acting as lifeguards on our trip to the Hot Springs at the conclusion of the meet.  Thanks to our new team “photographer” Catherine Cook, and to all the parent helpers for a job well done.
